Reason for this discussion

We are aware that there is some concern amongst some members of the harbour community regarding the possible direction and location of web cams.  As yet there are no web cams and no decision about their location has been finalised.  The location will depend on many factors, including opinions of the diverse harbour users.  Any advice and local knowledge is warmly welcomed and participation from all harbour users is encouraged.

The forum (to the right) is a vehicle for you to express your opinions about the website and web cams. It’s your harbour so please take the time to air your view point, either about the website in general or specifically about this issue.

You will need to register on the site to stop abusive language and inappropriate postings, sorry.

web cam at the Trap
Here's hoping this thing finally works. having spent the last few weeks contemplating the proposed web cam I have come to the conclusion that it will serve NO good purpose what so ever. It will have a detrimental effect on the local surfing scene as we all know, and as far as boat users are concerned, any skipper needing to use a web cam view of the harbour entrance to either leave or enter the harbour, should NOT be in charge of a boat. The only use I can think of for such a proposal is to site the camera so that it over looks the harbour / marina. Boat owners will be able to check their vessel in so far as security and weather conditions are concerned. When the dreaded SW gales are blowing, it would I submit, be more reassuring to view one's boat safely tied up rather than a view of the harbour entrance. Is this perhaps another case of lets do something simply because we can? The fact that said course of action is detrimental to all concerned seems to be ignored. Perhaps the money that would be used for such a project would be better used to educate people about diesel spills, the wanton disposal of plastic items and the disastrous effect such things are having on the local sea life.
Tony McLeod.
