Reason for this discussion

We are aware that there is some concern amongst some members of the harbour community regarding the possible direction and location of web cams.  As yet there are no web cams and no decision about their location has been finalised.  The location will depend on many factors, including opinions of the diverse harbour users.  Any advice and local knowledge is warmly welcomed and participation from all harbour users is encouraged.

The forum (to the right) is a vehicle for you to express your opinions about the website and web cams. It’s your harbour so please take the time to air your view point, either about the website in general or specifically about this issue.

You will need to register on the site to stop abusive language and inappropriate postings, sorry.

How abouit an interactive fishing site

A lot of emphasis has been given over to surfers. How about an interactive service for other sections of the harbour community, namely fishermen.

It could be a site where people inform others of what fish are being caught, in what quanitiies, the exact location (maybe using GPS,  lat and long), state of tide and weather and the tackle that has been used.

So what do others think?

It’s a good idea Amos, but first you must consider ALL the negative aspects before we look at any possible benefit to the wider community that may arise from such a service:

  • Do you want to have fishermen/women coming from far and wide just on the say so of what the Bass Boy may or may not have caught?
  • These fisher persons may or may  not have bigger & better rods than the locals.
  • They may also be better dressed!!
  • And be better looking!!
  • They will have no understanding of local history (what the hell will they know about the legend of Cantre’r Gwaelod)
  • They will have to carry out a Risk Assessment on the dangers associated with passing  the ‘Aber Surf Militia’ as they leave the harbour (still spitting feathers at the web cam that may or may not be looking at THEIR trap).
  • What will they know about Glacial Moraines (Cantre’r Gwaelod again)?
  • Who does know anything about Glacial Moraines?
  • a. Glaciologists.
  • (and the Petrified Forrest)
  • Why not invite the Spanish while were at it..
  • Does Bass Boy know how to use a GPS (I think he’s still on RDF) ?

I SAY THEY’RE OUR FISH, WHY SHARE THEM WITH ANYONE ELSE!!!

Having said that we could send them out looking for the shoal of the ‘Red Herrings’ that I spotted just off Patches last week!

 Well done Amos.

 Popeye.
